Counselor In Training Program

Come Join us as a Counselor in Training!

Prospective CIT Participants,

We are so excited to implement our new CIT program! If you are considering our Counselor in Training Program at Our Lady of Grace Summer Camp we are looking for teens who have an interest in and or passion for working with children. We are looking for CIT applicants that are ready to be engaged when volunteering, are creative and, can provide out-of-the-box thinking. As a CIT at Our Lady of Grace Summer Camp, we have high expectations that our CIT's will be actively engaging with our campers and staff, that they can help implement activities and games, and take initiative to make our camps run smoothly and efficiently. In return for your service, we will provide you with opportunities to develop your leadership and teamwork skills. These skills will not only help you throughout school but can be transferred into real-life situations. Some of these skills obtained will be helpful when you find a job and obtain one. This opportunity is a good stepping stone to transition from a camper and preparing them in case they would like to volunteer later on at camp, and or prepare them for camp counselor positions in the future at other camps!

Prospective Applicant's please have an email address that you check often, we may be sending information throughout the school year in anticipation and preparation for the summer. We are looking forward to a great summer and hope that you will be a part of it. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email us.

A Message to Parents & Guardians

Parents and Guardians,

At Our Lady of Grace Summer Camps we look at the CIT program as a career skills development opportunity due to this fact, we suggest you allow your teen to take the lead in this process. Assistance in the online registration process and online payment process will be needed as your teen registers. All online payments will be charged to your FACTS account. After those steps are complete please allow your teen to be the one to contact us with questions, set up their phone interview or in-person meeting and, respond to any other necessary processes and or any items needed. While we understand that you are being as helpful as we know many may be busy, how they interact with us through the application process is an indicator of how they will interact and apply themselves for opportunities and how they will engage with our campers and staff.

Sincerely,

Director of Extended Day

Ms. Julia Fergus - jfergus@olgsch.org

How old do you have to be to apply?

Our Lady of Grace CIT's must be entering into sixth Grade in order to apply. We are seeking CITs that are mature and dependable and need little direction to self-start!

Am I guaranteed a spot when I apply?

No. However, we make every effort to accept as many CITs as possible per camp week that meet our application requirements. Prospective applicants will be asked to answer a few questions that will let us know your interest in volunteering as a CIT. How applicants respond during the mandatory phone interview or in-person meeting will determine your acceptance. Please note training will be obtained throughout the camp week.

What is the CIT Fee's?

CIT's will register at the same rate as campers. Training will be implemented obtained throughout the camp week. Fees cover camp activities, training materials, and administrative costs.

Standard Rate (Bring your Own Lunch): $50.00

Standard Rate (With Lunch Provided): $80.00

What counselor's in training will do each day

Every day at camp provides new challenges, activities, and opportunities to interact and connect with our campers and staff. We want our CIT's to build personal connections to our campers, while important maintaining boundaries. Some tasks that we may ask help with include: set up and clean-up after activities, interacting in small group activities, play games, supervise campers while on the playground, reading, singing songs and, or busting a move during our gym dance parties. CIT's will help the director when setting up for lunch and pitch in wherever it is needed. CIT's will always be supervised by camp staff during all activities.

What time do I need to be at camp?

Our camp starts at 8:45 am and ends at 3:00 pm Monday – Friday. We ask that all CITs arrive no later than 8:30 am and stay until camp closure at 3:00 pm to help wrap up the day. It is best to have a consistent schedule so that our camp staff knows when to expect you.

Can CIT's get service hours?

Yes, you will have to track your hours (sign-in/out) every day. We will also keep track of them, but we will rely on you to verify them when requested. An email will be sent out at the end of the summer verifying the total number of hours you served.
