Camp Covid Protocol and Procedures FAQ

Q: When and how will we be notified of COVID-19 cases at the camp?

A: All members of our camp community will be notified as soon as possible after we are informed of a positive case. Families will be notified every single time there is a positive staff or Camp member. Communication will be sent from the Camp by email (phone calls would also be possible in the case of a quarantine), and a letter will be emailed if your child has had close contact with a COVID Positive case. If you do not receive a notification that there is a positive case in the camp community, then there are no new positive cases. If a positive case is announced and you are not informed that your child must quarantine, this means there was NOT a known exposure to your child. We are closely tracking illness and testing status, and we will notify all involved close contacts immediately in the event of an exposure.

Q: I was notified that my child is a close contact /exposure by the Camp. What is next?

A: Students who have been identified as a close contact/exposure through contact tracing done by the camp will be told to quarantine for a period of 7, 10, or 14 days. If the family opts to test the student, the health department recommends students who choose to test WAIT until 5-7 days after the quarantine begins so as to avoid a false negative. Please contact Camp Director Ms. Fergus at jfergus@olgsch.org

as soon as the results are available.

If your camper is signed up for other camp weeks following immediately following quarantine you will have the option to join a upcoming camp or be offered a refund at half the price of your registered camp cost.

Q: My child is having some symptoms. Should my child stay home? Should I have him or her tested?

A: Children who show signs of illness should stay home. The symptoms requiring campers to stay home include fever, chills, shortness of breath, new persistent cough, and new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, new onset of severe headache, congestion, or diarrhea/vomiting/abdominal pain. Any one of these symptoms means your child must stay home and see a doctor. You should consult with your pediatrician as soon as possible regarding testing. Many local pediatricians are recommending testing for any child with symptoms. When in doubt, stay home. Please have your camper stay home for a mild symptom while you determine if symptoms are due to allergies or illness. Please notify the Camp Director Ms. Julia Fergus at jfergus@olgsch.org of any absence.

Q: Should I notify the school when we are ill and/or if we are being tested for COVID?

A: Please notify the Camp Director Ms. Julia Fergus at jfergus@olgsch.org of any absence, and notify us if someone in your family is being tested for COVID. We want to maintain your health privacy, and we want our teachers to be able to focus on teaching and creating great experiences with our campers, while our administration focuses on illness mitigation. We require that anyone that has a family member getting tested due to a doctor’s order, symptoms, or exposure* (“close contact”) please keep all children and siblings home until the test results are received. Please notify Ms. Fergus at jfergus@olgsch.org as soon as the results are available, and please call the front office. *Those determined to be a close contact or exposure will have to quarantine for 7, 10, or 14 days regardless of test result.

Q: If someone in my family is being tested for COVID, do the other members of my family need to stay home?

A: Yes. We require that anyone that has a family member getting tested due to a doctor’s order, symptoms, or exposure* (“close contact”) please keep all children and siblings home until the test results are received. Please notify Ms. Fergus at jfergus@olgsch.org as soon as the results are available. *Those determined to be a close contact or exposure will have to quarantine for 7, 10, or 14 days regardless of test result.

Q: What steps does the camp take when a positive case is confirmed?

A: Steps that the camp takes include: collaborating with the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Charlotte, working closely with the local health department to comply with all CDC and local regulations, following additional cleaning and disinfection procedures, following contact tracing protocols, contacting families of students determined to be close contacts, quarantining any impacted individuals, and informing the camp community. During the school year Our lady of Grace Catholic School has been persistent in mitigating risk by conducting routine disinfection with EPA-approved listed cleaning products multiple times throughout the day, by providing desk and table shields, conducting health checks, requiring quarantine and/or testing of all symptomatic students and staff, regularly replacing upgraded MERV-13 air filters, providing time outdoors, and promoting the three W’s (Wear a mask, Wait to keep a 6 feet distance, and Wash or sanitize hands throughout the day). Our Lady of Grace Summer Camp will follow suit and continue to follow all ways to mitigate risk to our camp community.

What is considered Close Contact?

  • Anyone with in 3-6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes, starting within 24 hours of symptom onset, up until patient is isolated.
